Health and safety plays a key role in how our hotels operate day to day, helping to protect both our teams and our guests. This month, we caught up with Cintia to share more about her role and how she supports hotels in keeping everything running safely behind the scenes.
What does a typical day look like for you when you're working across our hotels?
No two days are the same. When I’m on site, I walk the hotel from top to bottom, checking fire safety, housekeeping, maintenance and compliance. I also spend time with the team, as they often spot things first. My role is making sure everything runs safely behind the scenes so guests can enjoy their stay.
(What kinds of things do you check or focus on?)
I focus on making sure teams feel supported and work safely. This includes speaking with staff, understanding challenges, and keeping systems up to date through audits, risk assessments, safety data and training. It’s a mix of people, processes, and a bit of detective work to make sure everything is running safely across our hotels.
What part of your role do you enjoy the most?
The people. Our teams are hardworking, collaborative and always willing to help, which makes improving health and safety much easier and more rewarding.
Health and safety is a big part of your work. What are some simple but important things hotel teams should always keep in mind?
The small things really matter.
Simple habits like keeping fire exits clear, reporting maintenance issues quickly, cleaning up spills straight away, and always challenging something that doesn’t feel right can make a huge difference.
Health and safety isn’t just about policies and paperwork — it’s about awareness. When everyone in the hotel keeps an eye out for potential risks, it helps create a safer environment for both the team and our guests.
What’s one thing people might not realise about your job?
People often think health and safety is just about rules and inspections, but a lot of the job is actually problem-solving.
Every hotel is different, every building has its quirks, and sometimes you need to be creative to find solutions that keep things safe while still allowing the hotel to operate smoothly.
Another thing people might not realise is that a big part of my job is about building relationships and helping create a culture of safety across the hotels. Health and safety isn’t something one person can manage alone — it really depends on everyone being involved.
