Not Quite Retired: Frank Pijpers stays on board

Some people count the days until retirement. Frank Pijpers has never been one of them.

As Assistant Hotel Manager at easyHotel Maastricht, Frank has been the trusted right-hand man of Hotel Manager Marco Kusters for the past few years. Together, they have formed a strong and dependable team, keeping the hotel running smoothly with plenty of professionalism - and, just as importantly, good humour.

Frank joined easyHotel in August 2022 as a receptionist. It didn't take long for everyone to notice what he brought to the team: years of experience, a calm and steady presence, and an unwavering willingness to step in whenever needed. Less than a year and a half later, he was promoted to Assistant Hotel Manager. It was a natural next step.

Anyone who has worked with Frank knows that he carries Maastricht, and the hotel itself in his head. Need to know the quickest solution to a problem, the history behind a building, or where to find the best local recommendation? Chances are Frank already know.

Work has never been something Frank simply does; it is part of who he is. As natural as getting a good night's sleep or enjoying a well-earned beer after work at his favourite local bar, The Duke. The idea of not-working has never really appealed to him.

On 7 August, Frank reaches the official retirement age of the Netherlands. But a life of leisurely mornings and endless free time is not quite his style. Sitting back and taking it easy? Not for Frank.

That may have something to do with the life he has already lived. 55 years ago he started as a dishwasher in a restaurant. And over the years, he has embarked on entrepreneurial adventures both in the Netherlands and abroad, in hospitality and beyond. His journey has been shaped by bold ideas, unexpected turns, and love(s). For the past four years, he has found calmer waters in Maastricht and he is enjoying them.

So while Frank is officially retiring, he is certainly not saying goodbye. He will remain part of the easyHotel Maastricht family as an on-call receptionist, continuing to support Marco and the team whenever needed. At least for the time being. After all, the next adventure is already beginning to whisper: a special someone abroad and plans for a trip to Ireland.

So this isn't a farewell. It is simply the start of a new chapter.

Anne and the Maastricht hotel team however, happily raise a glass to Frank's retirement at his favourite bar, The Duke, just around the corner from easyHotel Maastricht. If you ever find yourself visiting the city, consider it a local recommendation straight from the expert himself.

Cheers, Frank, and thank you for everything so far. We have a feeling the story isn't finished yet.
