We caught up with Cécile, Head of Construction, who recently joined the easyHotel executive team, to talk about her background, her role today, and how construction and refurbishments support hotel teams and the guest experience.

  1. Can you tell us a bit about your background before easyHotel?

I’ve spent around 15 years in project management for real estate development companies, from identifying opportunities through to handing over completed buildings. I started mainly in retail, before moving into offices, hospitality and mixed‑use projects, and I’ve been managing teams for the past eight years.

  1. How would you describe your role at easyHotel today?

My role focuses on increasing the value of our hotel portfolio. This includes assessing growth opportunities, defining refurbishment projects, and improving our hotels through areas such as food and beverage and upgrades to furniture, fittings and equipment. I also lead on delivering our sustainability strategy, particularly around energy efficiency, and support new hotel developments from deal stage through to opening.

  1. What has changed since joining the executive team?

I’m now more involved in strategic, company‑wide decisions, alongside taking on additional responsibilities linked to the wider direction of the business.

  1. What are your main priorities across construction and refurbishments right now?

A key focus is finalising the new room design, with an emphasis on improving guest comfort. We’re also progressing several value‑add projects, including refurbishing Amsterdam City Centre, upgrading Barcelona Fira, and creating a new lounge and breakfast area in Dublin.

  1. How does the construction function support hotel teams and the guest experience?

Our role is to ensure our hotels are designed to the right standard for a value brand, without compromising on comfort. We focus on durability, ease of maintenance and practical layouts, making hotels easier for teams to run and more comfortable for guests.
